Omdat het 150 jaar geleden is dat Cornelis de Bruin (1870-1940) geboren is, wordt deze veelzijdige kunstenaar uit de vergetelheid gehaald. Cornelis de Bruin werkte als keramist bij diverse keramiekfabrieken, o.a. De Distel en de Dordtsche Kunstpotterij. Daarnaast bouwde hij vanuit het Gooi en Amsterdam een carrière op als schilder. De expositie in het Noord-Veluws Museum laat zien dat Cornelis de Bruin vele werken op en rond de Veluwe en de Zuiderzee heeft gemaakt.
Wanneer Cornelis zich rond 1880 aan het schilderen waagt, is de waardering voor de schilders van de Haagse School op een hoogtepunt. Hun losse en vrije manier van schilderen wordt door Cornelis omarmd en nooit meer losgelaten. Hij maakt toegankelijke impressionistische schilderijen die ook nu nog geliefd zijn.
Opvallend is dat hij een breed scala aan onderwerpen aan het doek toevertrouwt, van zee-, haven- en stadsgezichten tot stillevens, werklui en zigeunervolk. Maar ook schaapskuddes, boerentaferelen en portretten. Hierdoor geeft zijn oeuvre een mooi tijdsbeeld van Nederland aan het begin van de 20e eeuw. Het boerenleven op de Veluwe en in het Gooi is een belangrijke inspiratiebron. De zwoegende boer met zijn ploeg of met zijn paardenkar op een hobbelig pad is een vaak terugkerend thema. Cornelis de Bruin legt diverse plekken langs de Zuiderzee met botters vast in verschillende weersomstandigheden.
De schilderijen in deze expositie zijn afkomstig uit de collectie van een particuliere verzamelaar, die ontdekte dat Cornelis de Bruin nog een andere kant had, namelijk die van de keramist. In de expositie zijn naast ruim 15 schilderijen dan ook beeldjes en beschilderd aardewerk te zien.
Aanvullend op deze expositie zijn in Museum Soest van 15 augustus t/m 8 november 2020 ook schilderijen en keramiek van Cornelis de Bruin te zien.

Omdat het 150 jaar geleden is dat Cornelis de Bruin (1870-1940) geboren is, wordt deze veelzijdige kunstenaar uit de vergetelheid gehaald. Cornelis de Bruin werkte als keramist bij diverse keramiekfabrieken, o.a. De Distel en de Dordtsche Kunstpotterij. Daarnaast bouwde hij vanuit het Gooi en Amsterdam een carrière op als schilder. De expositie in het Noord-Veluws Museum laat zien dat Cornelis de Bruin vele werken op en rond de Veluwe en de Zuiderzee heeft gemaakt.
Wanneer Cornelis zich rond 1880 aan het schilderen waagt, is de waardering voor de schilders van de Haagse School op een hoogtepunt. Hun losse en vrije manier van schilderen wordt door Cornelis omarmd en nooit meer losgelaten. Hij maakt toegankelijke impressionistische schilderijen die ook nu nog geliefd zijn.
Opvallend is dat hij een breed scala aan onderwerpen aan het doek toevertrouwt, van zee-, haven- en stadsgezichten tot stillevens, werklui en zigeunervolk. Maar ook schaapskuddes, boerentaferelen en portretten. Hierdoor geeft zijn oeuvre een mooi tijdsbeeld van Nederland aan het begin van de 20e eeuw. Het boerenleven op de Veluwe en in het Gooi is een belangrijke inspiratiebron. De zwoegende boer met zijn ploeg of met zijn paardenkar op een hobbelig pad is een vaak terugkerend thema. Cornelis de Bruin legt diverse plekken langs de Zuiderzee met botters vast in verschillende weersomstandigheden.
De schilderijen in deze expositie zijn afkomstig uit de collectie van een particuliere verzamelaar, die ontdekte dat Cornelis de Bruin nog een andere kant had, namelijk die van de keramist. In de expositie zijn naast ruim 15 schilderijen dan ook beeldjes en beschilderd aardewerk te zien.
Aanvullend op deze expositie zijn in Museum Soest van 15 augustus t/m 8 november 2020 ook schilderijen en keramiek van Cornelis de Bruin te zien.
