Andries van der Beek (Oldebroek 1925-2018) was tot vorig jaar de nestor onder de kunstenaars op de noordelijke Veluwe. Hij was betrokken bij meerdere kunstenaarscollectieven, zoals het Zwolse Palet. Hij werkte en exposeerde ook veel samen met de schilders van de Nunspeetse Schilderskring: Jos Lussenburg, Jaap Hiddink en Chris ten Bruggen Kate.

Na voltooiing van zijn opleiding aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten te Arnhem combineerde Van der Beek zijn kunstenaarschap met zijn werkzaamheden in het onderwijs. Hoewel hij zich voornamelijk heeft toegelegd op olieverfschilderijen en aquarellen, maakte hij ook tekeningen, (wand)objecten, grafiek en illustraties. De presentatie in het Noord-Veluws Museum omvat zestien schilderijen uit verschillende periodes in zijn kunstenaarsbestaan.

Andries van der Beek, CornwallIn de jaren zeventig maakte hij series in sobere kleuren met de knotwilg als onderwerp. In de jaren negentig ontwikkelden zijn landschappen zich meer tot uitgebalanceerde, kleurrijke en verstilde landschappen. Niet alleen de Veluwe en de IJsselstreek kregen zijn aandacht, ook werkreizen leidden tot vaak monumentale schilderijen van landschappen van onder meer Afrika en Europa.

Van der Beek ontwikkelde een geheel eigen visie op het landschap en gaf daarmee een eigen inbreng aan de al eeuwenoude landschapsschildertraditie. De kunstenaar liet zich ook leiden door verhalen uit de westerse Klassieke Oudheid en de Bijbel. In deze verhalende schilderijen is veel van zijn liefde voor architectuur terug te vinden. Deze schilderijen maken deel uit van een schenking aan het museum door de Stichting Chris ten Bruggen Kate van in totaal vijftig schilderijen van Chris ten Bruggen Kate. Najaar 2014 is het 100 jaar geleden dat het Vluchtoord Nunspeet in enkele weken uit de grond werd gestampt.

Het Noord-Veluws Museum werkt mee aan het project over Vluchtoord Nunspeet in samenwerking met o.a. Streekarchivariaat Nunspeet, Heemkundige Vereniging Nuwenspete en Wereldhuis Projecten. Tot half november is in het gebouw van Veluvine in Nunspeet de tentoonstelling “Onderdak in Nederland, Vluchtoorden in Nunspeet, Uden en Ede” te zien.

Vanaf 16 december 2014 tot en met 15 februari 2015 toont het Noord-Veluws Museum een kleine presentatie over Franciscus Matheus Vissers, een Belgische tekenaar in Vluchtoord Nunspeet.

Onder de vluchtelingen in vluchtoord Nunspeet bevond zich de tekenaar F.M. Vissers uit Antwerpen. Burgemeester Mackay liet Vissers in 1915 zijn portret tekenen. De burgemeester besloot het aan te bieden aan de gemeente voor de raadzaal. “Gezellig van aard als ik ben” wilde hij daar niet alleen aan de wand, maar omringd door zijn vijf voorgangers. Zo komt het dat de B&W vleugel van het gemeentehuis in Nunspeet nog steeds wordt gesierd door zes portretten van de burgemeesters uit de eerste eeuw van het bestaan van de gemeente.

Op 24 augustus 1917 is F.M. Vissers op 61-jarige leeftijd overleden. Omdat het 150 jaar geleden is dat Cornelis de Bruin (1870-1940) geboren is, wordt deze veelzijdige kunstenaar uit de vergetelheid gehaald. Cornelis de Bruin werkte als keramist bij diverse keramiekfabrieken, o.a. De Distel en de Dordtsche Kunstpotterij. Daarnaast bouwde hij vanuit het Gooi en Amsterdam een carrière op als schilder. De expositie in het Noord-Veluws Museum laat zien dat Cornelis de Bruin vele werken op en rond de Veluwe en de Zuiderzee heeft gemaakt.

Wanneer Cornelis zich rond 1880 aan het schilderen waagt, is de waardering voor de schilders van de Haagse School op een hoogtepunt. Hun losse en vrije manier van schilderen wordt door Cornelis omarmd en nooit meer losgelaten. Hij maakt toegankelijke impressionistische schilderijen die ook nu nog geliefd zijn.

Opvallend is dat hij een breed scala aan onderwerpen aan het doek toevertrouwt, van zee-, haven- en stadsgezichten tot stillevens, werklui en zigeunervolk. Maar ook schaapskuddes, boerentaferelen en portretten. Hierdoor geeft zijn oeuvre een mooi tijdsbeeld van Nederland aan het begin van de 20e eeuw. Het boerenleven op de Veluwe en in het Gooi is een belangrijke inspiratiebron. De zwoegende boer met zijn ploeg of met zijn paardenkar op een hobbelig pad is een vaak terugkerend thema. Cornelis de Bruin legt diverse plekken langs de Zuiderzee met botters vast in verschillende weersomstandigheden.

De schilderijen in deze expositie zijn afkomstig uit de collectie van een particuliere verzamelaar, die ontdekte dat Cornelis de Bruin nog een andere kant had, namelijk die van de keramist. In de expositie zijn naast ruim 15 schilderijen dan ook beeldjes en beschilderd aardewerk te zien.

Aanvullend op deze expositie zijn in Museum Soest van 15 augustus t/m 8 november 2020 ook schilderijen en keramiek van Cornelis de Bruin te zien.
