Op hun Grandtour door Gelderland in de negentiende eeuw moeten de Ridders van Gelre vandaag de Veluwe oversteken. Een barre tocht over woeste gronden, alhoewel: waar zijn die woeste gronden dan gebleven?
In de buurtschap Drie gaan ze op zoek naar de Bakenbomen. Hoe zwaar het leven op de arme zandgronden was ziet Ridder René om het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. De tocht eindigt in Harderwijk waar de Ridders op zoek gaan naar de overblijfselen van het Koloniale verleden.

In twee weken tijd was het rond, de zeer gewaardeerde schenking van eigenaar Marco de Gast uit Reuver (L) aan het Noord-Veluws Museum in Nunspeet. Een in alle opzichten imposant schilderij van Jaap Hiddink ‘Bosarbeiders met paarden en een Mallejan’.
Wat een geweldige timing, deze schenking, tijdens de lopende tentoonstelling ‘Jaap Hiddink, thuis in Nunspeet’, zodat het schilderij ook nog aan het publiek getoond kan worden. En wat te denken van het ‘toeval’ dat de afbeelding op de cover van het boek ‘Veluws Vitalistisch Impressionist’ dit specifieke schilderij van Jaap Hiddink toont. Alle stukjes van deze puzzel vallen prachtig op hun plek.
Het verhaal van Marco de Gast over zijn schenking:
Toen ik eind jaren 90 “De Mallejan” van Jaap Hiddink kocht, vertelde Hiddink mij dat hij dit schilderij maakte tijdens zijn periode als wethouder van Ermelo (ik weet dat Nunspeet vanaf 1972 als zelfstandige gemeente verder ging). Aangezien hij tussen 1966-1973 wethouder was, neem ik aan dat het schilderij tussen 1970-1975 geschilderd is. Deze Mallejan stond in zijn atelier. Ik ga er vanuit dat hij het niet eerder aan iemand verkocht had en dat ik de eerste eigenaar was.
Jaap Hidding vertelde mij dat hij in zijn laatste jaren van zijn leven nog geld voor zijn dochter apart wilde houden. Ik kocht naast De Mallejan ook het schilderij dat hij in Delft maakte van de studentensociëteit aan de gracht. Dat schilderij hangt bij mijn ex-vrouw Marina Rovers in Beesel. Aangezien ik met vrouw en twee kinderen op de Veluwe was, kon ik de schilderijen niet meteen meenemen. Na vrouw en kinderen in Reuver teruggebracht te hebben, ging ik een paar dagen later terug naar Nunspeet. Jaap Hiddink stond klaar met een blik vernis en een grote blokkwast en deed zijn werk, zich niet realiserend dat De Mallejan nog in mijn auto vervoerd moest worden. Weliswaar een ruime auto, dat wel, maar het was passen, meten en oppassen.
Terug in Reuver bracht ik het doek naar Ward Windhausen in Roermond, die een passende lijst vervaardigde. Het verhaal dat Jaap Hiddink over De Mallejan vertelde, was dat de tractoren de jonge aanplant op de Veluwe kapot reden. De Mallejan richtte duidelijk minder schade aan het bos. Het schilderen was één van de vele dingen die Jaap Hiddink uit liefde voor de Veluwe deed.

Bezoek de 3D-collectie op collectiegelderland.nl
Op 24 juni lanceerde Erfgoed Gelderland de online 3D-collectie van het project ‘Schatkamers van Gelderland’. Dit project brengt zeventig historische objecten uit verschillende museumcollecties verspreid over Gelderland virtueel samen op collectiegelderland.nl. Schatkamers vertelt zo op innovatieve wijze de overkoepelende geschiedenis van Gelderland en brengt historische objecten virtueel samen in één verhaal. 34 Gelderse erfgoedorganisaties werkten samen aan dit project. Het Noord-Veluws Museum draagt eraan bij met het bronzen beeld Herder met zijn hond door Charles van Wijk.
Een schatkamer van zeventig collectiestukken
Voor Schatkamers van Gelderland zijn zeventig collectiestukken geselecteerd uit meer dan tweehonderd ingezonden historische objecten, verspreid over de erfgoedsector in Gelderland. Het projectteam digitaliseerde deze collectiestukken naar interactieve 3D-replica’s. De kopieën komen virtueel samen op collectiegelderland.nl. De selectie concretiseert en illustreert de geschiedenis van het dagelijks leven, langdurige ontwikkelingen en belangrijke gebeurtenissen in de provincie Gelderland.
Het Noord-Veluws Museum doet mee
Eind negentiende eeuw ontstonden er in Gelderland kunstenaarskolonies. De eerste kolonie ontstond rond 1850 in de omgeving van Oosterbeek. Rond 1885 vormde zich vervolgens de kunstenaarskolonie op de noordelijke Veluwe, in Nunspeet. De kunstenaars werden aangetrokken door het ongerepte landschap. Charles van Wijk is in de kolonie rond Nunspeet tussen de schilders de enige beeldhouwer. Hij trok samen met de schilders de bossen in en de heide op om de werkende boeren ter plekke met klei te modelleren. Deze plastiek, De ‘herder met zijn hond’ laat ook zien dat Van Wijk oog had voor de mensen, hun uitdrukkingen en gebaren.
Zevenmijlslaarzen door de geschiedenis
De 3D-collectie is verdeeld in zeven tijdperken, van de prehistorie tot de twintigste eeuw. Voor elke periode zijn tien collectiestukken gekozen die een deel van de periode representeren. Denk aan een schedel van een wolharige neushoorn uit de prehistorie, een grafsteen van een Romeinse soldaat of de resten van de crime scene na een Vikingaanval. Ook dagelijkse objecten zoals kannetjes, speelgoed en sieraden dragen bijzondere verhalen met zich mee die samen de geschiedenis van Gelderland vertellen.
Reis door de tijd in de VR-game
Binnenkort zal ook de Virtual Reality game ‘Schatkamers van Gelderland’ fysiek rondreizen en tijdelijk verblijven op verschillende erfgoedlocaties. In deze game reizen twee spelers door het verleden om de historische objecten terug te brengen naar de juiste tijd en plek. Alleen zo kunnen ze de geschiedenis van Gelderland herstellen. Vanaf 5 juli kan het publiek de game voor het eerst spelen in Museum Het Pakhuis in Ermelo
