Kitty van der Mijll Dekker en haar man Hermann Fischer zijn beide rond 1930 opgeleid aan Bauhaus, de beroemde hogeschool voor de kunsten in het Duitse Dessau. Daar leerden ze onder meer het ontwerpen van voorwerpen die industrieel gefabriceerd konden worden. Kitty bijvoorbeeld ontwierp van alles, zoals wandkleden en damasten tafellakens, maar ook kleurrijke theedoeken die decennia lang in Nederlandse huishoudens gebruikt zijn. Hermann ontwierp niet alleen behang, maar ook gordijnen bijvoorbeeld voor paleis Soestdijk. Hij zorgde voor het in bedrijf houden van de weefgetouwen in hun atelier aan huis in Nunspeet.

Meer dan veertig jaar werkten en woonden zij in een fraaie villa naast het gebouw waarin nu het Noord-Veluws Museum gevestigd is. Dit pand is een aantal jaren geleden in oude glorie hersteld waardoor nog beter te zien is waarom het zo geschikt was voor hun kunstweverij. In dat pand tonen wij in samenwerking met de eigenaar o.a. kleden die Kitty ontwierp en weefde en waarvan een aantal nog door haar familie bewaard en gekoesterd worden.

In het Noord-Veluws Museum wijden we een expositie aan de weefkunst van het echtpaar. Met als centraal object het tafelweefgetouw gemaakt door Hermann Fischer waarop zij proeflappen weefden. We laten met name zien hoe revolutionair zij te werk gingen door bijvoorbeeld cellofaan mee te weven.

Daarnaast laten wij u als bezoeker graag de theedoeken bewonderen die Kitty van der Mijll Dekker ontwierp voor de fabriek Van Dissel. Verder is te zien dat zij en Hermann Fischer zelfs hofleverancier waren.
